1. Crime, Environment, and Offense (9 ECTS Credits)

Prevención situacional y análisis geográfico del delito 4.5 Theories of crime. Environmental theories and crime ecology. Tools and techniques of crime geography. Spatial distribution of crime. Crime analysis through criminological maps. Criminal profiling through maps. Crime patterns. Crime prevention through environmental design.
Crime and Society 4.5 Crime and daily activities. Social perception of crime and its dynamics. Crime and social media.
2. Tools and Methods of Analysis (13.5 ECTS Credits)
Course ECTS Description
Methodology of Criminological Research 4.5 Advanced techniques in methodological evaluation of intervention programs for crime analysis. Specialized criminological tools for analysis and prevention: special reference to self-report surveys and victimization surveys.
Violence Risk Assessment 4.5 Prediction techniques. Static and dynamic risk and protection factors. Prediction strategies. Tools for assessing the risk of recidivism in cases of intimate partner violence, sexual violence, violent behavior, and youth violence.
Criminal and Victim Profiling 4.5 Concept of criminal profiling. Types of criminal profiles. Profiling methodology. Serial crimes: killers, rapists and sexual aggressors, arsonists, satanic cults. The importance of victimology in criminal profiling. Victimization processes. Prevention of victimization.
3. Security Policies (9 ECTS Credits)
Course ECTS Description
Evaluation of Normative Effectiveness and Compliance 4.5 Social policies and programs and crime. Deterrence and social reintegration. Measuring recidivism. Efficiency, effectiveness, and efficiency. Systematic reviews and meta-analysis of programs and compliance with regulations.
Security Policy Management 4.5 Risk analysis procedures. Methodology, design, and management of public security policies. Fear of crime. Urban policy, crime, and citizen security. Proactive police models. POP (Problem-Oriented Policing) approach..
4. Violent and Social Crime (9 ECTS Credits)
Course ECTS Description
Urban Crime Analysis and Prevention 4.5 Street crimes: Youth gangs and urban tribes. Mass delinquency. Theft and robbery in shopping centers. Collective violence. Formal and informal control. Crime prevention models and systems. Elements involved: offender, victim, and environment.
Analysis and Prevention of Domestic Violence 4.5 Characteristics and typology of domestic abuse. Child abuse, intimate partner violence, elder abuse. The minor abuser in the family environment. Related criminological theory. Prevention of domestic violence.
5. New Forms of Crime (9 ECTS Credits)
Course ECTS Description
ICTand Crime 4.5  TIC and crime: concept, typologies, and new forms of crime through the internet. Social and economic crimes in cyberspace. Cyber victims. Social networks and crime. ICT applied to crime prevention. Prevention of cybercrime victimization.
Analysis and Prevention of Economic and Organized Crime 4.5 Terrorism: Definition, typology. Origins, causes, and organization of terrorist groups. Organized crime. Human trafficking, drug and arms trafficking. Prevention possibilities in these types of crimes.
6. Master’s Thesis (10.5 ECTS Credits)
Course ECTS Description
Master’s Thesis 10.5 Students must complete a supervised individual project on one of the subjects or topics covered in the master’s program.

Observations

For practical assignments in the courses “Situational Prevention and Geographic Crime Analysis” and “Urban Crime Analysis and Prevention,” the leading global software tool for crime analysis, emergencies, and defense, ArcGIS Pro by ESRI, will be used. Each student will be provided with a license during the course.

This tool operates on Windows OS or on MAC systems with virtualized Windows. It is recommended to first complete the “Situational Prevention and Geographic Crime Analysis” course before moving on to the “Urban Crime Analysis and Prevention” course.
